EXPONENTS    (for 6th and 7th Grade)

[This is a mathematics test for 6th and 7th Grade students. It might be useful even for the 8th Grade students ]

(1) Work out :       34 x 53

(2) Find the value of  ‘12 cubed’

(3) Hellen wants to make a solid cube of edge 6 units by arranging   unit cubes in different layers.
      Find the number of unit cubes Hellen may need to make this cube.


(4) Evaluate :  (5 – 3 + 2)0

(5) Using a calculator, find the least possible power of 7 which is greater than 823,000.

(6) If 4096 = 22n ,  find n

(7) With the help of a  calculator, arrange the following  from the lowest to greatest.
             76  ,  57  , 114  ,  95   ,  216

(8) Write 390,625 as a power of 5

(9) Find the value of  ( -3)5

(10) Given that  648  = 2m x 3n
        Find the value of m + n

(11) Write the value of  2-3 as a decimal

(12) The average distance between the Earth and the Sun is  approximately  1.5 x 106 km
        Work out the above distance and write the answer without using an exponent .

(13)  3( 3 – 7 + 4)
